A Successful 42nd Ramble Ride
After two years of unfavorable weather, we were finally blessed with an excellent day for this year’s June 9 Ramble. With an outstanding weather forecast as the date approached, the online registrations came rolling in, totaling nearly 200 before registration ended. Blue skies and comfortable temperatures prevailed on the day, leading to 84 walk-ups, totaling 281 paying riders in all. BCLC donated $5,000 of the Ramble proceeds listed at the table below.
The Jackie Robinson theme proved quite popular and resulted in 96 packets of Cracker Jack, 80 coupons for Culver’s treats, and 100 gift cards for a Portillo’s Italian beef sandwich given out to riders of various distances. Many thanks to the businesses that supported us. We were fortunate to have mechanical support provided throughout the event by Phil Sandler of Velofix, Bill Kelly of Bike Attic, and Wayne of Mikes Bikes. We thank them for their service.
Finally, and most importantly, the event was made possible by the time and effort put in by 50 outstanding BCLC volunteers. Without their commitment, all of the various features of our Ramble—registration, parking, routes, food purchase and preparation, the rest stop, SAG support, etc.—would not have been possible. While some clubs in the area have had to abandon their ride events for lack of volunteers, we can feel proud that so many of our members stepped up to keep the Ramble going!
All the Best,
Mitchell Jones, Ramble Chair
